Getting There & Getting Around

The Puerto Plata International Airport is less than half an hour from Cabarete and is the closest airport.

Taxi: Taxis are all over the place and can be inexpensive depending on how far you are going (From the airport to Cabarete it will cost you roughly $35). Fares are usually flat rates as most drivers prefer not to use the meters so make sure you negotiate a price before hand to avoid overpaying. You can ask your concierge for an appropriate rate to your destination as well.

Guaguas: This informal bus system runs between cities picking up travelers along the road. While this is inexpensive it’s not the most comfortable way to travel as drivers will overfill their vehicles creating cramped quarters. Negotiate a price before traveling and use exact change.

Caro Publico: Similar to a guagua, these are privately owned vehicles that drive along roads picking up travelers. These cars run shorter distances that guaguas and have less room. Negotiate a price before traveling and use exact change.

Motoconcho: These are privately owned motorbikes that pick up people along the road, similar to guaguas and caro publicos. We do not condone tourists using this form of transportation as helmets are seldom used making this method of travel dangerous. Negotiate a price before traveling and use exact change.
